United Credit Union was established in 1932 to serve Postal Employees. As the credit union grew, the field of membership was expanded to include all Federal Employees. We served this select employee group in Smith, Van Zandt, Upshur, and Wood counties. In 2001, we began to explore the need and desire of United Credit Union to serve more individuals and offer the benefits of credit union services to Tyler, Texas. Effective January 2002, we have added all who live, work, attend school or worship in Tyler, Texas. At the present time our field of membership now takes in all of Smith County. You may also qualify if you are a relative of an existing member.
Credit Union’s are “not for profit, but for service.” That is what we strive for each and every day. Our staff is experienced in the financial services industry with many years of service. You, the member, have a voice in the direction of the credit union. How? Each year, we have our annual meeting and all members are encouraged to attend. At this meeting we hold an election to vote on the Board of Directors. We have seven members on the Board. Each director elected to a full term serves for three years. Occasionally, if a director has to resign, an individual may be appointed to fill the position until the next election. At which time, you-the member, vote on who will serve the remainder of the term. As you can see, your voice can be heard and you do make a difference.
